Intelligent Energy just got a big time investor from the poker world. Hedge fund manager and a high stakes roller Talal “riadalot” Shakerchi invested £30 million into Intelligent Energy, a British company working on fuel cells that might replace traditional smartphone batteries.
At the moment, the British innovation company is doing several important projects. They are providing portable energy generators for the Indian mobile industry plagued by unreliable electrical units as well as working on producing a new form of long lasting hydrogen fuel cell batteries. If successful, these technologies could make a significant impact on many industries as well as Shakerchi’s already massive wealth.
To be fair, the company has not always been very successful. In fact, just before the hefty investment from Shakerchi, its stock prices plummeted to 11p per share making their valuation £20.6 million, a modest number compared to the £639.6 million they had back in 2014 when they first started. Shakerchi’s investment actually might have saved the company from shutting down and gave them an opportunity to continue their work.
Before the investment, Shakerchi was reportedly worth around £100 million and played in a large number of large games and tournaments. He once lost a whole €1 million on a 2013 EPT Cash Game with Sam Trickett and Isaac Haxton but also won two PokerStars SCOOP events as well as a 2013 UKIPT London High Roller event that earned him a massive $657k. He even took an impressive $289k with a 13th place in the 2015 WSOP One Drop High Roller.
Hopefully, his latest bet on Intelligent Energy will be a win for all sides.
