Ongame Network has just announced that it will implement a new rake redistribution model, called "Essence". This new system will be set in place starting with Thursday, the 15th of July.
What won't change:
• the total rake taken from a pot in a hand
• the total bonus given out across all players
• bwin also announced that they will not change the ratio of points given per dollar rake
What will change:
• how much of the rake taken in a pot is attributed to which player at the table
• resulting from this, how many bonus points the players at a table will gather
• resulting from this, how much bonus money and/or rakeback specific players will get
For determining on how to attribute the rake taken from a pot to the players at the table, the "Essence" system will take into consideration:
• the player’s style of play, pot contribution and skill level
• the long-term effects different players have on each other
Who will be affected by this change?
Two poker rooms Bwin and EuroPoker, as members of the Ongame Network, will be affected by this change. This means that poker players playing there will feel the new rake changes.
Short-term effect on the individual player
• Players that contribute less to the pots and/or in average win money will be attributed less rake, i.e. they will gather bonus points slower.
• Players that contribute more to the pots and/or in average lose money will be attributed more rake, i.e. they will gather bonus points faster.
Effect on the system
As skins and affiliates are also earn money based on the rake their players generate, both will in the future have higher incentives to concentrate on recreational players that bring in money to the system.
Long-term effect on the individual player
With skins and affiliates being incentivised to focus more on recreational players that lose money, games at Ongame should become softer and marketing activities directed towards genuinely new players will increase. Ongame expects that especially for strong winning players, this will lead to overall higher winnings after bonuses.
